Yes, the technology's out there. Yes, you could sign up tomorrow. Yet should you? When considering whether a storage area network is worthwhile to your business, it's always worthwhile to get the opinions of those in the industry - even if these opinions come from vendors trying to sell you on their particular solution. Still, any opinion that brings you closer to understanding how these technologies can enhance what you're attempting is worth it. With any vendor, make sure your vendor can customize a solution to fit your business, not the other way around.
