Western Digital Intros New Network Storage Drive
Filed in archive Cool Products on February 21, 2009

Western Digital this week introduced a redesigned My Book World Edition network storage drive, available in one- and two-terabyte capacities.
"The drive plugs into a network router and can begin backing up files from all computers on a network after only a few clicks with the mouse," writes InformationWeek's Antone Gonsalves. "Changes to files on the connected computers are automatically and continuously backed up."
"If it works as well as it sounds, My Book's new continuous backup function is just the type of simplicity people demand out of network storage: you can set it up to automatically save a copy of every new file on your network to the drive," writes ZDNet's Sean Portnoy. "This compares favorably to having set up a backup routine of some kind, even if it occurs at regular intervals."
"The World Edition drive also uses western Digital's GreenPower hard drive, which the company claims will use 33% less power than its previous NAS model.," writes Computerworld's Lucas Mearian. "A 1TB version of the drive retails for $229. The 2TB version sells for $449."
