Verbatim recently introduced its new InSight Portable USB Hard Drives, available in two configurations: 320GB for $120, and 500GB for $150.
"What's most attractive is the piano-black finish on a enclosure that reeks of Computer Fashion Week, if there was such a thing," writes the NYT's Stephen Williams. "To enhance the cool factor, Verbatim adds an 'always on' blue display window that reads out the available free space on the device, even if the drive is disconnected from the computer."
"The new product has a 2.5-inch drive with a spindle speed of 5400 revolutions per minute and 8 MB of cache memory, The bus-powered device is equipped with a USB 2.0 port," notes InformationWeek's Antone Gonsalves. "The InSight supports Windows Vista, XP or 2000 and Mac OS 9.x or higher."
"What's really neat about the hard disc drive space now are the external features that are popping up besides storage capacity and read/write speeds," writes CDFreaks' Jared Newman. "Some of the perks we've seen lately include extreme durability, automatic backup and media center functions. And all of this is being done within the $100 to $200 price range you'd expect from a high-capacity drive."
