DrunkenData.com » Blog Archive » Un-ingestion:

I'm a big fan of open standards - if for no reason other than to avoid this sort of scenario.

Our dev team at work is doing some work customizing one of our apps to work with EMC Centera - and this very discussion came up about why we use more open standard based storage systems.

"...there are no tools that let you migrate the data off Centera easily when you want to. Kazeon supposedly has some, but they aren't talking about them until their lawyers have a chance to review the ramifications."

Closed source, Proprietarylinks solutions. Gotta love 'em. Gotta love having your data tied up in them too.

Also - bonus points to the author for using "un-ingestion". Great word.
