Have we jumped onto the SSD (solid-state disk) bandwagon too soon? An interesting article put out on Byte and Switch titled: "Tough Times Ahead for SSD Storage" takes a look at where we actually are with SSDs in relation to HDDs (hard disk drives). It basically states that we should be cautious before diving into the SSD market thinking it's the next best thing since sliced bread.

The article takes a look at read and write speeds of SSDs compared to HDDs. Although it didn't mention any vendors to vendor comparisons, as I wished it would have, it does make some statements about percentages such as some SSDs write times are 40 percent slower then HDDs.

Despite the article, which I encourage you to read, remember, storage should always be evaluated on the merits it has for the application you are running and not the numbers put out by vendor or analyst. Test the numbers yourself and you can not go wrong. Else, you might get stuck in the mud.
