SpiderOak has announced an upgrade to its suite of online backup services – SpiderOak 2.0 promises a fourfold increase in application speed, faster file retrieval, and reduced memory usage during backups as well as browsing.
"The system uses a 'SuperCloud' structure to offer a centralized server location for storage of files," according to MacNN. "Users can access the information from any computer with an internet connection, including historical versions of deleted files. The software also uses de-duplication technology to cut time from the backup and sync functions. Files can also be shared in designated 'ShareRooms' that can be accessed by certain users. No passwords or encryption keys are stored, which is claimed to prevent even the SpiderOak employees from accessing content or file names."
SpiderOak is free for the first 2GB of storage, $10 per month for 2 to 100GB, and $10/month for each additional 100GB.
