Just imagine seeing the train wreck coming, yet doing nothing to prevent it. Such was the case last week when Intuit, which owns TurboTax, was caught ironically off guard and its servers were stretched to the breaking point as last-minute tax filers attempted to file electronically. With over 75 million tax returns filed electronically last week, could anyone be prepared? Customers thought so, and they let Intuit know in spades how unhappy they were. The company was eerily silent on the matter, save for a released statement offering an apology to customers trying to file using Lacerte, ProSeries or TurboTax programs, claiming an inopportune database issue that created the woes.
Luckily, the IRS was a bit more understanding. Late filers who experienced problems were given two more days to get their returns filed electronically.
