Size Matters: Use The Right Tool:
Your tools should amplify your productivity, not rob it. Whatever you choose think ROI.
A great couple of (pseudo?) Real Life stories over at the Lone Sysaadmin.
We've all been somewhere that this has happened - hell, I'll put my hand up and say that I've been guilty of it myself. I know have a rather Occam like decision making process when it comes to tools to use - if in any doubt, use the simpler Option. If not in any doubt, *look* for a simpler option (there probably is one), and prove to yourself that it won't meet requirements. If you build one server a month, it's probably not worth while taking the time to build and maintain a build server. If you monitor the availability of 3 servers, don't buy Tivoli (no matter what IBM tells you).
