Seagate this week introduced its new Seagate BlackArmor line of SMB storage solutions.
"The new products... include the NAS 440 and NAS 420 storage servers, which can support up to 8TB each," writes SlipperyBrick's Shane McGlaun. "Both of the devices are four bay, hot swappable units that offer a centralized way to backup and secure data in a business or home. The NAS 420 ships with two drives installed with 2TB of total capacity. The NAS 440 comes with four drives installed and capacities up to 8TB."
"Both servers deliver continuous and automatic backup of data on up to 50 networked computers with full-system backup and RAID options to help provide data protection and redundancy," writes eWeek's Nathan Eddy. "Customers can also access and share business content securely from the road with an Internet browser without any extra installs or software. Companies can invite colleagues and clients to access select files and folders without needing an FTP site while keeping their firewall intact and maintaining the security of their network."
"The BlackArmor line is compatible with Windows XP, Vista, and OS X (10.4.11 or later) and will sell for $799.99 (2TB), $1199.99 (4TB), $1699.99 (6TB), and $1999.99 (8TB) some time in May," writes Geek.com's Sal Cangeloso.
"Seagate touts the product's ease of use and bills it as a reliable and hassle-free storage solution for small businesses that don't have an IT staff," writes Ars Technica's Ryan Paul. "At the $2,000 price point, it could also get some traction in the home user market among amateur cinematographers and other users who need lots of archival capacity without the hassle of having to build a file server."
