Safeguarding the Piggybank
If you're having trouble convincing upper management to invest in a central storage system, show them this article, written by Ian Mylchreest, where Tom Utiger, founder of Data Empowerment Group, shows just what's wrong with going without. Utiger outlines the typical scenario: companies buy computers and when the hard drive fills up, they just buy another computer instead of dealing with the need to effectively store the information. Before long, there goes the neighborhood - the data is scattered to the point of not knowing where to look first for it.
