LaCie has announced that it will provide one year of free online backup with the purchase of any lacie external hard drive, starting next month.

"LaCie has partnered with Carbonite to handle online backups for its customers," writes Macworld's Jim Dalrymple. "According to LaCie, the year starts after the user installs the software and contacts the Carbonite Web site for the backups to begin."

"The Carbonite software automatically backs up the LaCie drive, finding new and modified files, encrypting them twice, and then uploading them to a secure data center," writes TUAW's Steven Sande. "The information remains encrypted while at the data center to maintain user privacy."

"The company's set no limit as to how much data can be stored with the service, though the required software is only available for XP and Vista users," notes Obsessable's Stephen Schenck.

I protect my files and emails with a very easy to use data backup software called Titan Backup, the destination is a 500gb WD harddisk, but the company stated that an online feature is under work also. Give it a free trial here.

I also got my hands on a 30% discount coupon from them, during the order process enter this coupon:NEOB-M5VL

I just installed Mozy on my girlfriend’s laptop and so far it is working fine. It doesn’t slow down her computer as much as I thought it might. I found good reviews on online backup services at http://www.onlinebackuptopten.com/ for those who are interested. Mozy has a new feature that allows you to backup to your local hard drive and to your online account with them from the same program. It used to take two separate programs to do this.
