It may seem a cost-saving strategy to move your customer service operations overseas, but in doing so, are you putting your customer data at risk? U.S. Senator Jim Webb (D-Virginia) believes the threat is national. Webb, who has not called for legislation that would regulate overseas data storage, indicated that companies should be aware of what risks they're facing by contracting with overseas sites. "When you start sending data to India and subcontracting it down to China, that's an issue," he said. Webb cited the differences in privacy standards as a real concern that seems to be overlooked. Webb said is was "absolutely opposed" to data leaving the country, and said he would personally oversee privacy and security areas.
