Imation Corp. has introduced the 1.5 TB Imation Pro WX Wireless USB Hard Drive, the world's first Wireless USB external drive.
"The hard drive works just like any other USB hard drive, with one exception: it doesn't require a USB cable," writes Crave's Dong Ngo. "Wireless USB... allows you to connect USB 2.0 devices to a computer wirelessly from up to 30 feet away with a throughput speed of up to 480 Mbps. According to Imation, the Pro WX wireless USB external hard drive offers less than that, with speeds of up to only 120 Mbps or 15 MBps."
"Pretty cool! Although it's not exactly as unique as it claims," notes DVICE's Adam Frucci. "After all, there are plenty of NAS drives that connect to your computer via Wi-Fi, allowing you to share data over a network or backup wirelessly. And with this drive costing [$450], you've gotta wonder if it's worth it to do wireless USB instead of regular USB or Wi-Fi. But hey, at least you have the option now."
