IBM Introduces System Storage DS8700
Filed in archive IBM on October 23, 2009
IBM today introduced the System Storage DS8700, the newest addition to its DS8000 lineup.
"Based on IBM's latest Power6 processor, the new DS8700 model announced today offers up to 2.5 times the performance of IBM's current DS8300 array and is up to 50% more energy efficient... The DS8700, which starts at $290,000, also allows users to configure the array with hard drives that have native full disk encryption for data security while the drives are in the box or after they have been removed at end of life," writes Computerworld's Lucas Mearian.
"It also incorporates solid state drives (SSDs), which IBM introduced to its DS8000 line earlier this year, as well as smart data placement – promoting regularly accessed data onto high performance drives," writes IT PRO's Jennifer Scott.
