EMC to cut 1,000 jobs, but company will grow in size

EMC's planning on cutting 1,000 position by the end of 2006 – but still expects to end the year with more staff.
Apparently, they're focussing on R&D and Sales and Marketing. The cutbacks will be from other 'different, unspecified' parts of the company.
Does that mean less management? More outsourced administrative functionality?
