DST and Your Data
Filed in archive Security on March 8, 2007
Times were simpler in the good old days - you know, before the government decided a change in daylight savings time was in order. Instead of having to change clocks (ahead in the spring - back in the fall) at the end of March and the end of October, we're now looking at changing clocks this weekend and the first weekend in November. So what's that doing to your data?
Time stamps will suffer, as will those looking for that data long after the DST changeover has been forgotten. Luckily, manufacturers have managed to deliver some upgrades that will allow your systems to keep up with the time, no matter what it happens to be. Microsoft, HP, Sun and others have released patches designed to fix the blip in the time radar on even Microsoft products. Visit the website of your system's manufacturer now to ensure that your data is labeled appropriately.
