Do we really care about storage security? - Computerworld:
In the past month, we've learned of yet another bank sending unencrypted tapes with sensitive data via UPS as well as a health care company using an employee's Garagefor off-site media storage. In the latter case, the employee's car, which contained backup disks and tapes, was stolen.
It's comparatively easy to secure your data when it's in your data centre - unfortunately, when you send your data off-site (which you do, of course, for backups, right?), how secure is it then?
If one of your collections of backup tapes gets lost, how certain are you that there's no commercially sensitive information to be obtained from them by a third (and presumsed malicious) party?
