Data Robotics, Inc. this week introduced DroboPro, an upgraded version of the company's Drobo storage product.
"Start-up Data Robotics gained wide notoriety about 18 months ago when it unveiled the first-generation Drobo data storage appliance and its hot-swappable drives, virtualized disk storage pool and self-monitoring software that activates easy-to-read green, yellow and red LEDs," writes Computerworld's Lucas Mearian. "To date, the company has sold about 60,000 Drobos."
"DroboPro, the company's first business-class device, is based on Data Robotics' simplified RAID technology that makes it possible to use up to eight 3.5-inch SATA hard drives to back up data and to provide redundancy to protect against the simultaneous failure of up to two hard disks," writes InformationWeek's Antone Gonsalves. "When a drive fails it can be swapped out with another drive without losing any data. The disks can be different brands, capacities, and speeds."
"The DroboPro software features advanced self-monitoring and self-healing functionality and is designed for use by business — not necessarily IT-trained — personnel," writes eWeek's Chris Preimesberger.
"Available now, DroboPro will be sold in multiple configurations, starting at $1,299 for the base product without drives, all the way up to $3,999 for 16TB with a rack mount," writes PC World's Melissa J. Perenson.
