Corsair this week introduced the Voyager Port, a USB flash drive docking station which supports push-button backup with the help of the included NovaBackup 10 backup and recovery software.
"With 64 GB pen drives now costing somewhat less than a second mortgage - and ever larger units doubtless on the horizon - it's a neat idea, but one which can be achieved purely via software using free utilities like Microsoft's SyncToy package," writes bit-tech.net's Gareth Halfacree. "That said, the simpler a backup solution is, the more likely it is to actually be done - and anything which means you're more likely to take regular backups is to be applauded."
Engadget's Darren Murph is unimpressed. "Corsair actually debuted its questionably useful Voyager Port earlier this month at CeBIT, but it's just now getting around to making things official... really, it does nothing that a standalone USB stick couldn't do given the right software. Essentially, one plugs this into their machine, loads up the bundled NovaBACKUP 10 application, sticks in a USB flash drive and mashes a single button to start the PC-to-USB drive backup process. In other words, it's an unnecessary middleman."
