Tony over at Techtarget.com tells us that Clustered storage will win
"Clustered storage is gaining ground with an increasing number of vendors and systems in today's market. Over time, clustered storage will be a requisite architectural design element for all storage systems."
Clustering makes sense, but it also adds a pile of complexity and cost. Of course, if you have an unlimited budget for training and hardware, then go for it!
