Buffalo Technology has introduced the first USB 3.0 external hard drive, the DriveStation HD-HXU3, offering data transfer rates up to 625 MB per second (or five Gbits per second).
"The drive is backward-compatible with existing USB 2.0 computers... The company is also releasing a two-port USB 3.0 PCI card, so users can upgrade their desktop PCs to take advantage of the drive's higher speeds," writes CNET's Lance Whitney.
"Buffalo states that their drive... should be available for purchase by December 7," writes I4U News' Robert Evans. "The 1 TB drive should cost $199, while the 1.5 TB will cost $249 and the 2 TB will cost $399."
"Welcome to the future, indeed," writes Engadget's Joseph L. Flatley.
