Apricorn has introduced the Aegis Padlock Secure Drive, a keypad-protected portable USB drive.
"The drive weighs six ounces and integrates a USB cable," writes Macworld's Peter Cohen. "It features a 16-point omnidirectional shock mounting system. The drive features built in AES encryption - Apricorn makes the drive available in AES-128 or AES-256 bit hardware encryption, and while it comes pre-formatted for Windows, you can reformat the drive to work on the Mac without damaging or removing the encryption capabilities."
"Like the Lenovo ThinkPad USB Portable Secure Drive, the Aegis Padlock uses a physical 12-key keypad to enter a user ID," writes PC Mag's Joel Santo Domingo. "Up to 10 user IDs are supported, plus an administrator code with full access to the encrypted volume. The drive is hardware encrypted from the factory, so thieves who lack the code(s) won't be able to access the data, even if the perpetrator removes the hard drive mechanism from the drive chassis."
"Prices start at $99 and $119 for the 250GB models in 128 and 256 bit, respectively, and they're available right now," writes Engadget's Laura June. "Go ahead - indulge yourself in the idea that someone is after your Mr T. JPEG collection."
