A Joint Study by Global Knowledge and TechRepublic
Are you secure in your job?
I have looked at quite a few salary surveys in my day, you probably have too, but this one seemed to be very well reported. It hit a lot of the key questions I tend to ask when researching salaries and possibly looking for a new job.
How is making the money out there?
Are people making the same as me for the work I do?
Do I need to take on learning a new technology?
What are my certifications worth?
The only thing that I didn't like, and typically don't like about salary serveys is their over generalization of what the salaries REALLY are. The report did break salaries out by industry, region of the United States, some job functions, age, and training and certifications. It is left up to you to determine how those all fit together to give you a true picture of what you should be making. The false impression of what a real salary range is and over generalization give the impression, and noted in this report, that salaries are continually rising. I personally just haven't seen this and I have constantly been in a IT area that is supposed to be one of the highest paid and continually growing..NOT!
Regardless, this report is a good read: 2008 IT Skills and Salary Report
